About the role:

Within the General Psychiatry Unit, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care focused on the stabilisation needs of people experiencing acute psychiatric challenges. As a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist in our inpatient general psychiatry unit, you will play a crucial role in providing psychological assessments, therapeutic interventions, and mental health care to patients admitted for acute psychiatric conditions. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support patient well-being and recovery within a therapeutic environment.

Main purpose of the job

  • Provide evidence-based individual therapy to patients to address acute and chronic mental health concerns, utilizing various therapeutic modalities ensuring a high standard of care and demonstrating best and innovative practice.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments to inform diagnosis and formulation regarding treatment plans for patients with diverse psychiatric conditions.
  • Offer crisis intervention and risk assessment, developing safety plans and interventions for high-risk patients.
  • Preparation and delivery of psychoeducation and process groups, as key facilitator and occasionally as co-facilitator.
  • To assist the therapy team on the strategic development of the therapy programme(s) and to implement new therapy modalities and new modes of delivery to meet patients’ needs at any time.
  • Play an active role as a part of the multidisciplinary team providing feedback on therapy and assessments to nursing staff and other allied health team members on a daily basis and as required.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, progress notes, and treatment plans in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • To be a committed and flexible member of the Therapy team, including prompt attendance and minimal absence, and willingness to assist in the daily running of the department when there is sickness and annual leave.

Salary: £52,000 including London allowance

Job type: 37.5 Hours per week (Full time 5 days per week, but will also consider part time 4 days per week)
