ADHD Day Therapy Programme
The Nightingale Hospital ADHD day therapy programme is dedicated to supporting individuals with ADHD or whose functioning is significantly impacted by attention deficits or ADHD traits, through evidence-based cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) interventions.
The programme is designed as a one-half day per week, 16-week day patient treatment programme facilitated by our specialist multidisciplinary team comprising of BABCP-accredited CBT therapists and psychotherapists, all working collaboratively to provide comprehensive care. The treatment is delivered in-person at our Bell Street Therapy Centre in Marylebone, London.
What is the ADHD programme?
The treatment programme integrates the core components of the Young and Bramham Programme and has been developed in line with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines for ADHD. Described as a ‘CBT for ADHD’ programme, the programme aims to improve the overall experience of living with ADHD through understanding individual barriers to achieving goals and finding effective ways to problem solve in a supportive space that provides the opportunity for reflection, connection and normalisation.
Who is the ADHD programme for?
The ADHD day therapy programme is suitable for individuals with a diagnosis of ADHD or functioning which is greatly impacted upon by deficits in attention deficits or ADHD traits. The programme will be delivered in a group setting, and participants must be able to tolerate and engage in this environment.
As the programme is designed as CBT for ADHD, it is non-medical and non-invasive, designed for individuals who may be struggling with symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity, but who do not require intensive inpatient treatment.
Programme overview
The programme is a ‘CBT for ADHD’ programme which combines psychoeducation and skills workshops with the aim to help improve the experience of living with ADHD. Before commencing the programme, patients will have an initial consultation with a member of the Day Therapy team to establish goals, treatment targets, and determine their suitability for group therapy for ADHD.
This specialised day programme accommodates a small number of patients at a time, enabling tailored support while also providing the benefits of a therapeutic group environment.
The ADHD day therapy programme is a one-half day per week, 16-week programme, taking place on Wednesdays or Fridays from 9:30am to 12:30pm, with a 30-minute break at 10:30am.
The day therapy programme offers each patient:
- A weekly, half-day timetable specific to the ADHD day therapy programme, comprised of one 60-minute and one 90-minute group per day
- Ad-hoc check-in sessions with a member of the Day Therapy team to review your progress in groups
- Support for loved ones of ADHD group members will be provided through a dedicated two-hour session, facilitated once during the programme block

The suitability assessment process
The assessment process for the ADHD day therapy programme is designed to assess an individual’s suitability for the programme, rather than for an ADHD diagnosis.
The treatment pathway follows these steps:
- Initial assessment with a member of the day therapy team:
- Therapeutic assessment to establish goals and treatment targets
- Full history evaluation to gather relevant background information
- Formulation to develop an understanding of the individual’s needs
- Psychometric outcome measures to evaluate ADHD symptoms and their impact
- Full risk assessment and management plan, including identifying both immediate and long-term risks
- Formal assessment (if necessary):
If required, a formal assessment will be conducted by your Nightingale Hospital consultant psychiatrist. - After the assessment:
- If deemed suitable, you will be allocated to an ADHD day therapy programme cohort with an intake date and the programme will commence
- Towards the end of your programme, we will focus on preparing for the next step. This may include a potential referral for individual therapy in an outpatient setting
This process ensures that the programme admits individuals who are suitable for the ADHD Day Therapy Programme, rather than conducting a formal ADHD diagnosis.
