Mindless eating is one of the most fundamental reasons for weight gain in the UK.

Almost everyone can relate to the term “comfort eating”. Whether you are experiencing a hectic home life or a stressful work environment, comfort food provides a quick and easy solution for lifting our moods. But the practice of treating ourselves to our favourite foods in order to improve our mood and well-being is thought to be the most compelling contributor to obesity in the UK.

Dr Bijal Chheda-Varma at Nightingale Hospital says: “Overeating is about physiological needs and emotional needs. Physiologically, if an individual’s diet is deficient in macro and micro nutrients, then the brain keeps sending us signals for more sustenance i.e. the hunger signal. unfortunately, we misread this as a need for more food rather than need for right food. this is often a trigger for overeating…”
