Professional experience
Dr Jonathan Ornstein trained as a doctor at Manchester University, and after medical and surgical posts, moved to London in 2000 to work as a Psychiatrist. He has held posts across London in a variety of settings, working with people from all walks of life and of all ages and backgrounds. This includes working in community clinics, general and psychiatric hospitals, with people from all ethnic backgrounds, with homeless people and with immigration and social issues.
Dr Ornstein has been a community consultant psychiatrist since 2008 and works within the NHS for Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. He is the clinical lead for a recovery team helping people with long-standing mental health needs, and also for an early intervention service that helps people who have become psychiatrically unwell for the first time.
He greatly enjoys teaching and has received certificates of excellence from St George’s medical school for the last two years. He also regularly hosts seminars for GPs and other health professionals on all areas of mental health.
Personal statement
Dr Ornstein uses an open-minded integrated approach, combining biological, psychological and social therapies to help people resolve their issues and psychiatric illnesses. He has experience in working with people with depression and anxiety, psychotic illnesses, personality issues, adult ADHD, trauma and medical-legal work.
He focuses on working with the person rather than the condition, so gaining an understanding of each patient’s needs and producing a collaborative tailored treatment plan. He is happy to accept self-referrals, or from GPs, psychologists and other health professionals.
Dr Ornstein is able to carry out Skype appointments and is recognised by all major health insurers. He is also happy to liaise with family members and carers where appropriate and is available for telephone or email advice.
He is available Monday to Thursday evenings from 6pm, and during the day on Fridays.
